No less than eighty percent of your donation will be directed to Compassion’s Response programs. No more than 20 percent is used for fundraising initiatives and administration. Compassion assisted children and their families receive no cash. Benefits are always in the form of goods and services, carefully designed, delivered and purchased according to the children’s individual needs. We encourage you to check out our financial statement for more details.
Yes, we can remove your spouse’s name from the sponsorship but we will require written or verbal permission from your spouse to do so. Please contact our office by phone or by email to get this change process started.
We want to see children grow and flourish in all areas of their life – spiritual, physical, cognitive and social-emotional. Through sponsorship we can help make that happen. Each child is linked with one sponsor that contributes $41 a month to ensure that their sponsored child receives healthcare, education, food, clothing, vocational training, social, emotional and spiritual care. These benefits are provided through activities run through the church-based child development centre.
No less than 80 percent of your monthly support benefits your child, either directly or indirectly. Compassion-assisted children and their families receive no cash. Benefits are in the form of goods and services, carefully designed, delivered and purchased according to each child’s individual needs.
As a general rule, 20 percent of these funds are invested in the development, oversight, and auditing of Compassion’s programs in which every assisted-child participates. These investments ensure that each child receives the best care possible, rather than becoming the recipient of a handout.
The remaining funds are used to meet the day-to-day needs of each child. This can include:
nutritional meals and the provision of clean drinking water;
medical and dental check-ups, care and education;
educational supplies and tuition fees;
clothing including school uniforms;
non-formal educational and life-skills training such as participation in excursions and camps;
extra-curricular activities such as drama, dance, music and art etc.; and
biblical training and discipleship
Our local church partners also invest considerable resources in the development of each child, allowing Compassion and the church to help bring an eternal solution to poverty in the life of a child.
We do not facilitate children visiting their sponsors in Canada or elsewhere because of several factors:
Cost – The cost of flights, passports, accommodations for child, guardian and translator would be extremely prohibitive.
Culture Shock – Few Compassion-assisted children have ever been more than 3 – 4 blocks away from their homes. While Compassion programs have implemented outings so children can see a little more beyond their immediate community (such as city park and zoo trips), North American culture would be too challenging for a child.
Although your child cannot visit you, you can go and visit your child in their country. You can learn more about different travel opportunities with Compassion here.
Compassion deeply appreciates the faithful emotional and financial support you give to your sponsored child. In today’s uncertain economic times your support and commitment become even more critical as our sponsored children and their families living in extreme poverty are hit even harder by the global recession and food crisis. Because we understand that sometimes personal or financial circumstances can make that monthly financial commitment very difficult for you, Compassion has various options available to assist you that can be customized according to your individual needs and financial circumstances. If you are experiencing difficulties and feel you might benefit from one of our options for sponsorship assistance or you would like to find out more, please contact our office..
Many sponsors have requested that opportunity. For years, we have discouraged such efforts due to the potential abuses of personal information (i.e. addresses) exchanged outside of a monitored relationship between a sponsor and a child. The potential for abuse is real. But, so is the potential for healthy communication between a motivated sponsor and a young person who is launching into adulthood. We encourage you to pray about your decision and then contact our office. You will need to sign a release form, and include it with a final letter to your sponsored child.
Online – you can submit a photo through the letter section of your My Compassion account. Just above the box where you can type out your letter to your sponsored child, there is an “Upload a Photo” button. Use it to select the photo to add to your letter. Once you are ready to send the letter, click on the “Send Letter” button
Printed Photos – If you want to send in a physical copy of a photo, simply include it in the mail with your next written letter. It is helpful if you can write your supporter number and the child’s name and number on the back of the photo. Please do not include any photo descriptions as these will not be submitted for translation.

Our three distinctives make us who we are: We are Christ-centred, child-focused and church-based. We partner exclusively with local churches to implement our programs, because we believe the Church is the most effective in reaching its neighbours. Our holistic child development program is focused on developing children in every aspect of life—physical, social-emotional, cognitive and spiritual. And we do it all in Jesus’ name! We believe that transformed people will transform families, communities and nations, which is why we give children the opportunity to be rooted in Christian community at a local church, where they experience God’s transforming love and have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Cheques made out to Compassion Canada will be accepted, as will money orders. Unfortunately deposits can not be made directly into Compassion’s bank account.
Yes. We encourage sponsors to write to their sponsored child, to include photos and cards and encourage them in their spiritual journey. Children love to receive letters and cherish them.
You can send a letter, card, paper play set or poster to your sponsored child through your My Compassion account.
Your privacy is important to us, which is why My Compassion is subject to a very high level of security and operates under the same security principles that apply to online banking. My Compassion uses secure and encrypted communications between your web browser and our servers. When using My Compassion, you should see a yellow or green security padlock or a blue tab indicating the name of the site’s security certificate. These indicators are your assurance that My Compassion is running in a secure environment, and may appear differently depending on which web browser you use.
Though you and your spouse may sponsor together, My Compassion is set up so that each spouse has his or her own account rather than a shared one. This allows each spouse to manage their preferences individually. If you have any comments or suggestions on this feature, please connectwith our office.
Donations to the Christmas Gift Fund will appear in the “My Giving” section of My Compassion as your contribution is not specifically designated to your sponsored child. We’re considering adding gift descriptions to help you better identify how your gifts were used in future updates to My Compassion.
When you write a letter online, we send it digitally to the Country Office. From there, Compassion staff translate, print and deliver the letters (and photos) to your child. We are unable to send emails directly to your sponsored child but our online letter writing process is the next best option.
