If you’re ready to adopt the new sponsorship rate, then no further action is required.

However, if you choose to opt out of this rate increase, you can do so via My Compassion or by connecting with our friendly team. We’ll be happy to help you and discuss your options.

When you sponsor a child with Compassion, you’re not just providing clean water, food and access to healthcare and education. You’re moving to spark hope for a future free from poverty. However, with the changing economic situation and rises in the cost of living, the cost of supporting a child in overcoming poverty has risen since the last time we increased our sponsorship rate in 2022. Our monthly sponsorship rate is changing so that the impact you make with your sponsorship can stay the same. This rate change will help us sustain the impact on children in Compassion’s programs.

Although this rate increase will not directly fund new elements in our sponsorship program, you can be confident that Compassion regularly evaluates its program to figure out how to make our programs even more effective for the children and communities we serve. We have committed people—from Compassion centre staff to global program leaders—who work each day to ensure that sponsorship meets the unique needs of each child, their family and community. Sponsorship with Compassion is never static—we’ll always be adapting and innovating to meet the complex realities of poverty.

Your continued commitment means that Compassion can continue showing up for children living in poverty, regardless of the context or circumstances.

Sponsorships below our standard rate are covered by other supplementary funds. We understand that not everyone will be able to opt into the new rate and we plan to have other funds fill the gap. 

We will check in periodically with sponsors who choose not to opt into the standard rate to see if their situation has changed. This is to ensure sponsorship accounts stay up to date and to minimize the number of sponsorships Compassion covers with supplementary funds. 

We’re very aware of the ongoing economic uncertainty around the world and its impact on Canadians.  This is also true of the countries we work in. Inflation and instability have impacted those countries as well—the same dollars that fund our program do not go as far as they used to in providing children with excellent care and critical resources. To combat rising prices and needs, we in Canada have increased our sponsorship amount by $2 per month, enabling our frontline church partners to continue to offer the important and effective program that Compassion needs them to provide to the children in poverty within their local communities.  

Over the last 70 years, Compassion has revolutionized the fight against global poverty by partnering with local churches to lift children out of spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. As a Compassion sponsor, your move of compassion sustains that legacy of impact and ensures that children living in poverty continue to see whole-life transformation. 

Child sponsorship through Compassion provides a child living in poverty with formal and non-formal educational opportunities, healthcare, hygiene training, supplementary food, personal attention, guidance and love—and the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus at an age-appropriate level with discipleship from a local church.
