Helping moms & babies at UG0259
You are changing the lives of moms and babies at the Murambi Parish Survival Program. Here’s how.
The Need
Of the 5.2 million children who die around the world each year, 75 per cent die in the first year of life. Babies are at risk of death due to premature birth complications, complications during childbirth, infections, pneumonia and diarrhea. But this is preventable. With training and support, moms in poverty can be empowered to raise healthy and happy babies.
Our Response
Critical care
Your support helps secure access to pre- and postnatal care, skilled birth attendants and medical intervention when necessary.
Home-based care
Mothers are visited in their homes monthly by a Survival specialist, who offers education in prenatal care and early child-rearing as well as one-on-one biblical mentoring.
Group-based learning
At these church-based activities, moms learn skills to earn an income and gain vital knowledge including basic literacy, the importance of breastfeeding and how to prevent malnutrition and disease. These groups combat isolation through a supportive community of mothers who, together, learn about the God who loves them.

Activities
Physical health: Moms learned about health and hygiene, equipping them with essential knowledge to prevent and treat illnesses. Caregivers learned how to properly use mosquito nets to prevent malaria and how to prepare oral rehydration solutions to treat dehydration. Practical lessons on hand washing, personal hygiene, wearing clean clothes and sanitation encouraged healthier daily habits and improved overall family well-being. Program staff also held a workshop on the importance of preparing and following a balanced diet. This helped moms make healthier food choices for their families and increased their nutrition and health. Moms and babies also received medical screenings and follow-up treatment if necessary.
Early stimulation: Moms and babies enjoyed coming to the stimulation room at the centre, which is filled with age-appropriate toys for children to enjoy and explore. Early stimulation activities focused on promoting cognitive, emotional and physical development in young children through play and interaction. Children learned how to share with others and develop their motor skills. Staff also taught moms how to make dolls out of locally available banana fibres so their children had toys to play with at home.
Spiritual nurture: Spiritual development activities, including fellowship gatherings, provided opportunities for encouragement and community connection. Caregivers learned about God’s Word, shared testimonies and were encouraged to grow closer to God through a personal relationship with Him.
Skills development: Program staff taught moms skills such as basket weaving and bead making to empower caregivers with practical income-generating abilities. These initiatives strengthen household resilience and promote financial independence for families. Caregivers also learned financial management skills, including budgeting, joining community savings groups and investing to help them achieve their goals.
Home visits: Staff visited moms at home each month to deliver personalized lessons on child care. Moms learned ways to bond with their child such as carrying them, breastfeeding, singing, dancing and playing together. This bonding promotes happiness and joy and is essential for building healthy family relationships. Implementers shared Bible stories, prayed with families and encouraged dependence on God during trials. They also identified home hazards to keep children safe from harm.
Child protection: Moms learned about child protection, with the lessons focusing on children’s rights. Parents were guided on how to discipline children without causing harm and how to protect their well-being.

My name is Elias, pastor of St Luke Murambi Church of Uganda and overseer of Murambi Child Development Centre. I am married to Evas, and the Lord has blessed us with 10 children: four are biological and six children are under our care. Currently, our centre has 376 participants, of whom 325 are centre based, 51 are home based and 20 are Survival participants whom you support. The centre has five staff: Benon, Precious, Deborah, Simon and Esther, who are hardworking and God-fearing workers.
Your partnership allows us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of participants and families we serve. Your support shows that you care for the people of Murambi. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your generous support. Your support through caregivers’ fellowship, healing and deliverance sessions makes a huge impact such as reduced domestic violence cases, and male caregivers participating in church activities and giving their lives to Jesus Christ. Thank you for helping us to continue with our church vision, which is raising a God-fearing generation. We are so grateful to God because attendance in church services has also increased.
Through your support, sick mothers and children have been able to receive treatment, saving the lives of the little ones and their mothers and reducing child mortality of vulnerable children. Caregivers have learned how to properly care for their babies and their entire families, teaching them the importance of sleeping under a mosquito net, child protection and prevention of common diseases like pneumonia and waterborne diseases. They learn about health and nutrition, sanitation and parenting skills. Moms receive antenatal and postnatal care and have safe deliveries at health centres.
Because of your kindness and generosity, caregivers are learning marketable skills like basket weaving, creating beads and making liquid soap. We are planning and implementing a new program that will enable us to focus on the entire community and address their needs of literacy, numeracy and a vision for change.
We extend our sincere gratitude for your invaluable contribution, which has amplified our impact. With your support, we can create tangible results, touch hearts and foster growth in the community we serve. Thank you for embracing our cause with such grace.
Words can’t express how much we appreciate you. May God bless you. I leave you with a Bible verse from 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3: “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Yours in His Vineyard,

My name is Patience and my baby is also named Patience. Thank you so much for your generous heart. We really appreciate the love you show us. I am very pleased and excited to write to you and share about my life. I am grateful to God for blessing me with a wonderful husband Philip and six children: four girls and two boys. I have lived in Katwe for 22 years. It is a rural and peaceful area that has agricultural activities, retail businesses and farming. The common crops grown in our area are maize, beans, ground nuts and coffee. Our house has three rooms. We prepare our meals outside in our small kitchen.
My husband and I are casual labourers to provide food for our family. We are in the wet season, harvesting millet and maize and preparing gardens to plant beans and ground nuts. I earn around UGX 6,000 (C$2.32) each week. Your kindness and support have helped me a lot.
I thank God for blessing me with a beautiful daughter. My baby girl is healthy, growing so well and active. She likes playing with dolls, balls and molding mud balls and small mud houses with her siblings. She enjoys clapping hands and dancing at church during devotions. Patience is now 11 months old and weighs 8.6 kilograms.
I joined the Survival program when my daughter was three months old and I was surprised to meet staff who cared for me so much. They come to visit me every month at home and help me learn how to care for my baby, breastfeed her, protect her, bond with her and pray for my family. They also teach me different lessons like family planning, maternal health and child protection. At the program we learn about nutrition, hygiene and when to seek medical attention.
I enjoy going to the centre for group activities where we play different games with our children. I learned about children’s rights, saving and investing and socializing with community members. I was taught how to breastfeed my babies and maintain good hygiene by washing my hands before nursing my child. I have gained knowledge of how to prepare nutritious food for myself and my child. I also got to know about God and I attend Sunday services with my family. I thank God because since I met the centre staff, they encouraged me to be patient and keep hopeful in Christ.
My fellow Survival caregivers send you greetings and appreciation. They are all doing well. I close this letter with gratitude and hope. I thank you so much because your support has helped us to get medical treatment, receive screenings by doctors to detect sicknesses and get necessary treatments. We have also acquired a variety of skills like bead making and basketweaving. I ask you to pray for us so that our children grow well into well-disciplined children. I thank you, our dear donor, for helping transform the lives of children and caregivers in the Survival program. We love you and wish you God’s blessings.
Yours faithfully,

Thank you for your selfless love and support that you have given to the children and mothers of the Murambi Survival Program. Your support is greatly transforming lives by ensuring mothers and children receive the care, knowledge and resources they need during critical stages of life.
Because of your thoughtfulness, expectant mothers are receiving essential prenatal care, health education and nutritional guidance that help them prepare for safe pregnancies and healthy deliveries. Many mothers who previously lacked access to maternal health services are now attending antenatal visits, learning about safe motherhood practices and gaining confidence in caring for themselves and their babies. Your generosity is also helping young children thrive in their earliest years. Families receive guidance on proper infant nutrition, breastfeeding, hygiene practices and early childhood care. As a result, many children are experiencing improved health, better growth and a stronger start in life.
Beyond physical support, the program has brought hope and reassurance to many families. Mothers are taught and encouraged during the regular home visits and training sessions, which equip them with life-saving knowledge and practical skills. This has strengthened families and empowered mothers to provide healthier environments for their children. The impact of your kindness extends far beyond the resources provided. You are giving children a healthier beginning, empowering mothers with knowledge and confidence and strengthening entire communities for the future.
In addition, the program intentionally shares the love and message of the gospel with mothers. Through fellowship, prayer and biblical teachings, women are finding spiritual encouragement and renewed hope in Christ during a challenging season of life. The message of God’s love and care is strengthening their faith and helping them raise their children in a nurturing and spiritually grounded environment.
Furthermore, mothers are being equipped with livelihood skills like basket weaving, making beads and baking that empower them to support their families. Through training in income-generating activities and basic financial management, women are gaining practical skills that enable them to improve their household income and become more resilient. These opportunities are restoring dignity and confidence as mothers can contribute to the well-being of their families.
Your support is not only improving health outcomes for mothers and children, but it is also nurturing spiritual growth and building sustainable livelihoods. The impact of your generosity is seen in healthier babies, empowered mothers, strengthened families and communities filled with renewed hope. We are truly grateful for your compassion and commitment to this mission. Your support continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many mothers and children who might otherwise face significant challenges during these critical early stages of life. We cannot fully repay you for your love and kindness but pray that the Lord will continually bless you and sustain you always.
With sincere gratitude and lots of love,
