Today is World Day of Social Justice. According to the United Nations, “We uphold the principles of social justice when we promote gender equality or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.”
You might not associate sponsorship with social justice, but fighting injustice is what our church partners are doing every day.
Here are just a few ways Compassion is standing up for social justice:
- Ensuring the children of migrant quarry workers in India go to school instead of working.
- Teaching parents of tribal groups in Kenya the importance of educating girls.
- Ensuring marginalized communities in Thailand know their rights to citizenship.
- Educating communities around the world about the rights of children to eradicate child abuse.
