Help A Dad Earn an Income with Drivers’ Education

Written by: Aveleen Schinkel

Tamil Nadu is a state on the most southern tip of India, and is home to more than 72 million people. Its capital city, Chennai, boasts the second largest port in India and brings in commerce from all over the world. Chennai is a bustling hub of activity and culture, making it an exciting and popular tourist destination.

But it isn’t so exciting for the locals.

Farming is the most common method of income in Tamil Nadu, but with the expansion that city life and tourism bring to an area, that is now changing, too. Workable land is decreasing, and seed prices continue to steadily rise. Many farmers can’t keep up with the costs, so they are forced to leave their families and head into the city to find work, usually in the tourism industry.

The most popular occupation is that of a driver.

Through Gifts of Compassion, we are giving dads a chance to learn valuable skills by providing them with driver’s training and a license. Being a safe, certified driver will guarantee more work, and a steady income means they won’t have to leave their families.

Muralidharan K.R. faced many of these obstacles before taking driver’s training. Now, his life has turned around. “I had suffered a lot to fulfill my family’s needs and take care of our children,” he says, “but now I can achieve financial stability, as it is a permanent source of income. Now my family and I are so happy.”

Opening doors to valuable training and job opportunities is one of the best gifts you could give to a father. Make this year a special one – give a dad in India a gift he’ll never forget.

Great news!
