Compassion Canada is proud to be named one of Canadian HR Reporter’s 2023 “Best Places to Work”!

Through surveys completed by employees, organizations are evaluated for CHRR’s list based on employee satisfaction with factors such as health and dental benefits, workplace flexibility, diversity and inclusion, and psychological safety. To be recognized as a Best Place to Work, organizations need to achieve an overall satisfaction rating of at least 75 per cent in a variety of measures. We are thrilled that Compassion Canada exceeded that rating!

Misty Fonseca, Chief People Officer at Compassion Canada, says, “This is a wonderful recognition of the culture we work hard to create together as a Compassion team. We recently completed our semi-annual ‘Known, Loved, Connected’ all-staff survey, and it came back with over a 90 per cent rating in almost all categories. I’ve always known Compassion is an incredible to work, and it is encouraging when others validate it.”

Best Place to Work: Compassion Canada’s people and purpose

With a mission to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name, Compassion’s focus on people and purpose is vital to accomplishing its mission.

Misty emphasizes the importance of a vibrant and talented workforce in accomplishing our mission: “Our staff are incredibly talented, diverse, passionate and mission-driven people who want to come alongside the work God is doing in the world—being recognized as a ‘Best Place to Work’ just underscores this!”

Our staff team gathered at Compassion Canada’s headquarters in London, Ontario in September 2022.

Over the past several years, Compassion has introduced several initiatives aimed at investing in employee growth and well-being including:

  • an annual two-day virtual spiritual retreat
  • a leadership development program
  • a fitness benefit
  • flexible work arrangements
  • employee experience committees such as our Wellness Committee
  • …and more!

“I am proud of the holistic approach we take when it comes to staff care. Our model of holistic child development is something we try and weave throughout our organization, knowing we are whole individuals who bring more than just our ‘work’ to work. Especially as a distributed workforce across Canada with many of us working from our homes, we bring work into our homes and vice versa,” Misty says. “We intentionally invest not only in people’s professional development but also personal growth, spiritual well-being and physical and mental wellness. Our goal is to create a community and culture of connectedness and meaningful work.”

We know that we can’t accomplish our purpose without a healthy and vibrant workforce. That’s why investing in our people remains a strategic priority for Compassion Canada.
